The Book
Muscle Mayhem: A Hilarious Fitness Adventure
Every gym has a Bob. Sometimes it’s you.
A funny, relatable story about gym anxiety, confidence, comparison and one ordinary bloke trying very hard not to embarrass himself.
Bob has spent years promising himself he’ll “start Monday”.
Then one day, he actually does.
He walks into Iron Temple Fitness determined to make a change and immediately discovers that wanting to get fit and knowing what you’re doing are two very different things.
Suddenly he’s surrounded by confusing machines, intimidating gym regulars, questionable protein advice, sore muscles and an entire world of unwritten rules that everyone else seems to understand.
From treadmill panic and bench-press disasters to protein-shake explosions, leg-day regret and some unforgettable gym personalities, Muscle Mayhem follows Bob as he tries to survive long enough to work out whether he actually belongs there.
Important clarification
This is not a fitness guide.
It’s a gym comedy about starting, failing, overthinking, laughing at yourself and showing up again anyway.
What you’re getting into
Think first-day nerves, questionable decisions, gym characters you’ll swear you’ve met before, and a hero who is trying his best.
Gym Chaos
Treadmill panic, bench-press disasters, sore muscles and moments Bob would very much like everyone to forget.
Relatable Characters
A colourful collection of gym personalities, awkward encounters and people who seem far more confident than Bob feels.
Something Real
Underneath the jokes are confidence, comparison, friendship, resilience and learning not to disappear when things get hard.
Meet the hero
Bob is not the strongest person in the room.
He isn’t the most confident either. He gets things wrong, compares himself to everyone around him and regularly wonders whether leaving would be easier than coming back tomorrow. But he keeps showing up.
The laughs come first. But there’s more underneath.
Bob’s story isn’t really about becoming the strongest person in the gym.
It’s about what happens when you walk into a place feeling like everybody belongs there except you.
It’s about comparing yourself to people who seem further ahead, getting embarrassed, questioning yourself and still finding the courage to try again.
And it’s about discovering that confidence doesn’t mean having everything figured out.
Sometimes confidence is simply being willing to come back tomorrow.
Funny. Relatable. Uncomfortably familiar.
Laugh. Lift. Repeat.
You’ll probably recognise yourself somewhere in this book
If you’ve ever joined a gym and felt completely out of place, promised yourself you’d “start Monday”, compared yourself to everyone around you, tried something new without really knowing what you were doing, or simply needed a reminder that progress can look messy, Muscle Mayhem will probably feel very familiar.

Do I need to know anything about gyms to enjoy it?
Not at all. If you've ever been the new person in a room, made an ambitious promise to yourself or wondered whether everyone else got a secret instruction manual, you'll recognise the feeling.
